Guy Borden, active ISA member and former Houston chapter president, died 3 July 2015 at the age of 94. Borden earned a chemical engineering degree from the University of Texas, Austin, and served as a naval officer during World War II. After the war, he earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Michigan and joined the faculty at Louisiana State University. Later Borden left academia and worked for BS&B and Bechtel. Over his career, he was an active member of ISA. Even after retirement, he edited a 700-page monograph for ISA.

Charles W. Covey, a pioneer member of ISA, died 6 March 2016 at the age of 97. He was the first full-time editor of the ISA Journal and publications manager of the Society for eight years. His entire career involved instrumentation, first with the application of equipment for industrial processes, and later with oceanographic research instrumentation. He had 55 years of accomplishment in administration, business publication management, editing, and technical writing in the field of instrumentation.

Covey worked for Union Carbide Nuclear Corporation to organize and manage a training program for instrument technicians for the K-25 plant for the Manhattan Project. Following four years at Taylor Instrument Company editing a new house magazine and conducting customer training classes, Covey returned to the Manhattan Project as head of the instrument engineering department at the gaseous diffusion plant. Later Covey joined with Charles Bussmann to found Compass Publications, Inc., where he worked for 37 years in various capacities. At the end of his career, Covey worked for the National Ocean Service at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Covey was president of the Oak Ridge and Paducah ISA local sections. He was also a member of the national executive board and chairman of the national publications committee, and was selected a senior member and an ISA Fellow. In 1954, he became a full-time employee in Pittsburgh, Pa., to organize staff for the new ISA Journal—editorial, production, circulation, advertising sales, and marketing. Covey received the Jessie H. Neil Editorial Achievement Award for editorial excellence.
