This course covers the basic concepts of the internet of things and how these concepts, underlying technologies have evolved, and how they are currently being applied to industrial applications. Participants will review actual IIoT projects in greater depth and examine these projects' technical and business aspects, giving registrants deeper insights into IIoT applications.

Learning Objectives
This course begins with IIoT fundamentals, then reviews the ways in which IIoT technology augments or replaces existing technologies, and concludes with practical application examples and exercises.
- Overview of the Industrial Internet of Things
- Define the general concept of industrial internet of things and how it is somewhat different from the basic IoT
- Describe and explain some of the enabling technologies that support IoT and IIoT applications
- Recall that many of these enabling technologies may be used in industrial applications that are not making use of the Internet
- Recognize the basic differences between IoT and IIoT applications
- Describe some examples of actual IoT and IIoT applications
- IIoT Supporting Technologies
- Name the types of applications that are suitable to machine learning
- Describe the ways in which data needs to be processed and prepared for use in machine learning and advanced analytical computations
- Recognize advanced data presentation technologies and how they may be employed
- Evaluating a Prospective IIoT Project
- Explain the technical challenges of an IIoT project
- Recognize the phases of an IIoT project
- Describe the financial evaluation/budgeting process
- Determine the major technical challenges in an IIoT project
- Recognize the various decision points in the IIoT project
- Example IIoT Industrial Applications
- Recall the objectives/goals of a set of actual IIoT projects
- Determine the financial and labor costs of implementing a set of actual IIoT projects
- Explain the underlying technologies that enabled these actual IIoT projects
- Identify the technical risks and business ‘drivers’ involved in each of these actual IIoT projects
- Class Exercise: IIoT Project Proposals
- Apply the knowledge gained in the first part of the course about IIoT to a project
- Evaluate various potential technical approaches
- Assess the potential benefits of an IIoT project
- Estimate the cost-benefit return of an IIoT project
